Creating a Thanksgiving legacy

Dear Colleague,

Of all the holidays that we have in the USA, Thanksgiving is special and the most universally celebrated. Even though it has a historical origin like many holidays, Thanksgiving’s significance for most families is based in the here and now. It’s about recognizing and appreciating the abundance of life for families today.

There is a wonderful pleasure that comes with the gathering of family at this time of the year. Some have travelled from a distance to celebrate in the family fold. Generations come together to embrace each other. Sometimes new lives who have joined the family in the past year are welcomed, and of course we miss those who are now absent.

As endodontists, we often have the unique perspective of sitting at the head of the Thanksgiving table. Endodontics truly gives us a charmed life where we can nurture and support our families at a higher level than most. It is both an honor and a responsibility to have such an influential role that our loved ones depend on for security and opportunity.

For me, a great part of the gratitude I feel at Thanksgiving comes from my children. At my age, they now have their own busy lives, career and children, and I am so thankful for their success! Their lives fill me with joy. I give them appreciation and credit for everything they have accomplished. At the same time, I reflect on how I’ve been able to provide for them and contribute to their individual journeys.

Families are about love, but families are also about legacy. We receive from our parents, and in turn we give to our children. We share our experience, values, traditions, and hopes that each generation that follows us is strengthened by our efforts.

Most endodontists graduate into the profession because of tremendous effort by their families to support their education and career path. Many of those families had much more limited means and sacrifices were a necessary part of their legacy in our lives.

And now we have established ourselves in a profession that can generate such an incredible level of abundance in our lives and families. Even just at an economic level, endodontics lets us provide for our next generation without the difficulties that our previous generation often endured.

We have a choice as endodontists that few have. We have a choice of how big our legacy will be. In a highly successful endodontic practice, our work can supply vastly more income and financial resources than we ever need individually.

So, the choice is what do we do with the rest? How can we empower not just our children, but our grandchildren or possibly even our great grandchildren? There is also our community. How do we make our world a better place? These are profound questions that become more prominent as you become more successful professionally and economically.

I have so much gratitude for the joy my family brings to me, and so much gratitude for the profession of endodontics. I’ve truly been blessed in every way, and I’ve achieved a level of personal achievement that is deeply humbling.

That is, in fact, the simple reason that Endo Mastery exists—to share with and support other endodontists on how to achieve the same level of happiness and fulfillment, both personally and professionally, that I have experienced. That is my hope for the legacy of Endo Mastery within the professional family of endodontists.

On behalf of everyone at Endo Mastery, I would like to express our deepest gratitude for the privilege of working with you and helping you achieve your vision for your practice and family.

Wishing you, your family, and your team a wonderful Thanksgiving!
